2. Exercises using multiple rhythm modes
Blues 21
mode: SSLLSSSSL
While technically this tune is in common swing time, i've superimposed a rhythm on top of it which is most easily conceived of as a grouping of 3 sets of 7 triplets repeated 4 times + one bar of space. The math is thus: 8 bars of swing = 96 triplets. 4 X 21 triplets plus 1 bar(12 triplets) also = 96 triplets. So after 8 swing bars, the rhythm repeats.
16 and 12
Here I've just combined a guaguanco clave(base 16) with the west african clave(base 12). The harmonic rhythm follows the 16, and the melody follows the 12. They line up after 3 bars of 16.

The drum part follows the 12/8 "ionian" clave. The harmonic rhythm follows a LSSL (10/8) mode

Similar to the previous exercise, but the melody follows the 12/8 rhythm while selecting pitches from from the 10/8 harmonic rhythm
